Sophronitis coccinea flower botanical print

Sophronitis

There are less than ten species of these miniature Cattleya-like plants. They are found growing in eastern Brazil and Paraguay. All species grow on trees or rocks in nature. The plants are small and have small oval tightly-packed pseudobulbs with one small leaf at the top. The flowers are showy and bright and unusually large in proportion to the plant. They are used to bring bright color and compact size to Cattleya hybrids (the S in the SLC.).
